The Wonders of Wool!

Yes, the wonders of wool. Knitting, spinning, crochet, weaving, longstitch, felting, name your craft ladies and gentlemen because wool is pretty useful throughout many of them!

I once had so much raw fleece (almost as much as the lad above may have had!) that when I was making cushions and ran out of stuffing I thought, hmm I’m sure I could use some of this! Luckily before I put the raw fleece in I realised that this would in fact be a bad idea with all the daggs (dirt and “other things”) still being in the wool. So I settled for some clean carded wool I had for dyeing and spinning. However I had neglected the fact that wool will always smell as wool does like sheep, needless to say my cushions still smell a bit sheepy, I definitely would not recommend lying on them with wet hair!

So on a similar and related topic I’m a big fan of knitting and spinning, and have just recently branched out into the art of crochet flowers. Now some  might say, how dare you? and others might say about time! But whether you are okay with the intermingling of the fibre arts or not I’m sure you’ll enjoy this up and coming event if you  live in Wellington. I’m sure to be going, just don’t tell anyone I know that I’ll be taking my wallet :p

While we’re on the subject of fibre related events, I’d like to take the opportunity to invite you to Nanatech’s very first in the flesh, real world event! We’re using the Victoria University Environment week to show case just how awesome knitting is by offering a free learn to knit workshop followed by some radical guerilla crafting! Could it get any better?

There will be wool provided but if you’re an experienced knitter/crocheter with yarn (or without) you’re more than welcome to come along and knit urban knitting creations (and lend a hand teaching even if you feel so inclined :))

So come on over on Tuesday and we might even have some sweet treats!
